The Colorado Humane Society & SPCA (CHS) has added three counties to its partnerships across Colorado. CHS and sheriffs’ offices in Mineral, Rio Grande and Saguache counties will work together to investigate animal cruelty situations in their jurisdictions. With the addition of the new county partnerships, CHS serves 23 counties throughout Colorado.
The Colorado Agricultural Commission, the nine-member commission that serves as the rule-making body for the state Department of Agriculture, has approved the addition of these counties to the CHS jurisdiction.
“In May and June, we visited with the three counties in the San Luis Valley. We expressed our commitment to collaborative relationships, both in our commissioned counties and with partners throughout the state, to better protect and serve animals,” said Duane Adams, director for CHS. “We are honored that all three county sheriffs accepted our partnership, and we look forward to assisting in those counties.”
The Colorado Humane Society & SPCA works with local law enforcement and government agencies to investigate and prevent the cruelty and neglect of companion animals and horses (excluding livestock) within the state. CHS is an independent, Colorado-based, nonprofit organization and is not affiliated with national advocacy groups or government agencies.
